History of the English Lecture
December 2, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Jefferson State’s Liberal Arts Department will present a lecture on the history of the English language on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of the Health Sciences Building.
The presentation will be led by Dr. David Basilico, Associate Professor of English at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His talk will focus on how the English language developed from Indo-European through common Germanic to Old English, Middle English and then Early Modern English. He will particularly concentrate on sound changes, which allows us to see how English is related to other European languages and why English spelling does not always line up with pronunciation.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
