On Sept. 30 and October 1 and 2, 2010, The Freunde Deutscher Sprache und Kultur (FDSK) German Culture Club will host their 35th annual Bavarian-style Birmingham Oktoberfest in the 2nd Avenue North block between 23rd and 24th Streets.
Delicious German cuisine such as bratwurst, knockwurst and schnitzel plates will be offered at lunch (11 am – 2 pm) and dinner (5- 9 pm) all three days. Traditional and contemporary German music by Lorelei und Schatzi and Wolfgang Moritz will be featured on Friday and Saturday.
On Saturday, October 2nd, activities will kick off with a “dachshund and friends” parade at 11 a.m. for dachshunds and similarly-sized dogs. There is no entry fee and awards will be given for best costume, crowd favorite and most entertaining dog. To register your dog as a participant, contact Katie@thegrodnergroup.com.
Kinderfest (children and family fair) from 12 noon to 3 pm will feature story tellers, a moonwalk, arts and crafts stations and face painting.
A beer tasting ($25) for connoisseurs will feature craft, German and German-style beers Saturday from 4-7 pm.
The Alabama-Florida game will be shown and a Halftime Hops event with traditional German games will be held during the football contest’s halftime period.
