Birmingham Zoo officials announced that Jan. 11 will be the last day for residents to drop of their Christmas trees for recycling at the Zoo.
This marks the 12th year that the Birmingham Zoo has partnered with the City of Mountain Brook’s Forestry Division as a designated Christmas tree recycling site.
Residents can drop off their “clean” trees during normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Zoo grounds. Trees must be natural and free of any decorations, garlands or stands.
The Zoo has a designated tree drop area that is accessible through the construction entrance on Cahaba Road.
Recycled trees will be chipped, shredded and made into mulch that is then spread throughout Zoo grounds to control runoff and erosion.
