Dr. Bruce Irwin, founder and chief executive officer of American Family Care, is the honoree for the 2019 Birmingham Heart Ball, held each year by the American Heart Association.
The festivities on the night of March 2 at Barber Motorsports Museum will include dinner, an opportunity to donate and a live auction.
Founded by Irwin, American Family Care today consists of 200 medical centers and 600 in-network physicians, according to a release.
“I’m incredibly honored to serve as the 2019 Birmingham Heart Ball honoree,” Irwin said in a statement. “We see people at risk for heart disease and stroke in our clinics every day. I am proud to be working with the American Heart Association to further what is a joint mission of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.”
To date, the Birmingham Heart Ball has raised more than $16 million for local research, advocacy and community education efforts to fight cardiovascular diseases and stroke, which are the first- and fourth-leading killers of Alabamians, respectively.
