How often is Over the Mountain Journal published?

Over the Mountain Journal is a bi-weekly newspaper. Every two weeks our paper is delivered.

Where is your office located?

Over the Mountain Journal is located at 2016 Columbiana Road in Vestavia Hills, across from Shades Mountain Baptist Church.

Where can I pick up a copy of your newspaper?

We deliver stacks of papers to Over the Mountain libraries for distribution: Homewood, Hoover, Vestavia Hills and Emmet O’Neal in Mountain Brook.

Can I subscribe to the newspaper if I don’t receive it by carrier delivery?

Yes. The cost is $24 per year, and the newspaper will be delivered via bulk mail.

How do I submit a story idea to your newspaper?

E-mail our editorial staff at editorial@otmj.com.

How do the newspaper’s deadlines work?

Over the Mountain Journal is published every other week with the publication date always falling on a Thursday. We send the paper to press Monday morning prior to the publication date. All announcements should be submitted for consideration three weeks prior to the publication date.

Do you have a calendar in Over the Mountain Journal?

We do not have a calendar listing. Instead we have an About Town section. We include paragraph format pre-event listings as space is available. You can also list on our online calendar.

You may fax, mail or e-mail write-ups. If e-mailing a write-up, send the document as an MS Word attachment, if possible, or paste the text in the body of the e-mail. E-mailed photographs should be attached as high-resolution .jpeg images. To mail a write-up with a photograph, send a glossy print with the information about the award, accomplishment or honor. Due to space constraints, we may be unable to run all submissions.

How do I submit a write-up for the Social section of your newspaper?

You may fax, mail, e-mail write-ups, or fill out the Got News form. If e-mailing a write-up, send the document as an MS Word attachment, if possible, or paste the text in the body of the e-mail to editorial@otmj.com. E-mailed photographs should be attached as high-resolution jpeg images. Please identify the subjects in the photographs from left to right.

To mail a write-up with a photograph, send a glossy print with the information about the social occasion to 2016 Columbiana Road, Birmingham, AL 35216. The Journal is not responsible for the return of photos, copy and other unsolicited materials. If a self-addressed, stamped envelope is included, our staff will do our best to return the photographs to you.

How do I submit a note for the People section of the newspaper?

You may fax, mail or e-mail write-up. If e-mailing a write-up, send the document as an MS Word attachment, if possible, or paste the text in the body of the e-mail. E-mailed photographs should be attached as high-resolution jpeg images. To mail a write-up with a photograph, send a glossy print with the information about the award, accomplishment or honor. Due to space constraints, we are unable to publish Dean’s List or Honor Roll.

How do I submit a note for the Schools section of the paper?

You may fax, mail or e-mail write-up. If e-mailing a write-up, send the document as an MS Word attachment, if possible, or paste the text in the body of the e-mail. E-mailed photographs should be attached as high-resolution jpeg images. To mail a write-up with a photograph, send a glossy print with the information about the school’s special event. Please identify everyone in the photo.

How do I submit a note for the Sports section of the paper?

You may fax, mail or e-mail sports notes, such as signings, awards and league championships. If e-mailing a write-up, send the document as an MS Word attachment, if possible, or paste the text in the body of the e-mail. E-mailed photographs should be attached as high-resolution jpeg images. Send to editorial@otmj.com. To mail a write-up with a photograph, send a glossy print with the information about the school’s special event. Please identify everyone in the photo. Our editorial staff will consider all submissions, but sending an article does not ensure it will run in the newspaper. The Journal is not responsible for the return of photos, copy and other unsolicited materials.

Over the Mountain Journal is a suburban newspaper delivered every other Thursday to 36,500 homes in the Over-the-Mountain area.

Who gets Over The Mountain Journal?

Single family homes in Mountain Brook, Homewood, Vestavia, Hoover and North Shelby County (the neighborhoods just south of Birmingham.)

Who reads Over The Mountain Journal?

An average of 82,500 readers per issue, 70 percent of whom make above $70,000 annually. More than 60 percent of Journal readers have attended college.

How much does it cost to advertise in Over the Mountain Journal?

When does the Journal come out?

The Journal publishes twice a month on Thursdays.
