Retired teacher and principal Robin Litaker is running for Mayor against city council member Jennifer Andress on a platform of transparency, smart growth, and inclusive leadership. “I’m running for Mayor because I believe in Homewood’s future and know we can build it together,” Litaker stated.
Litaker completed her bachelor of science in physical education in 1980 and a master’s in teaching in 1982 at Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She spent 10 years teaching elementary age physical education at Maryvale and Dodge Elementary Schools for Mobile County Public Schools before moving to Hoover City Schools. While teaching, she also completed a specialist certificate in educational leadership at the University of Montevallo in 2007 and a doctorate in education from Samford University in 2014. A former Alabama State Teacher of the Year, Litaker says she supports educational excellence and will attempt to deepen partnerships between City Hall and Homewood City Schools.
Litaker called out recent financial troubles of the city. In April, former Finance Director Robert Burgett was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison after admitting to embezzling nearly $950,000 in tax dollars. The city was ordered to collect about $1 million in restitution and has since revamped spending policies, including tighter creditcard controls and regular audits.
In 2024 Litaker ran for the Republican nomination to challenge Terri Sewell in the 7th Congressional District of Alabama in the 2024 primary and lost
Homewood’s municipal election is set for August 26, 2025.
