The Dance Foundation will host 50 YEARS GOLD, a community dance party for all ages on Aug. 16, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Edge in Homewood on Greensprings Highway. Event sponsors include the Homewood Arts Council, Alabama State Council on the Arts, Buffalo Rock, and Thomas Waters State Farm.
Admission to the community party is free and features dances like The Hustle, Macarena and The Cupid Shuffle; Movement to Music demonstrations with audience participation and craft activities. Food and drinks are available for purchase from local vendors. The event will include many 70’s themed social dances in honor of TDF’s founding in 1975.
“The Dance Foundation began with a big idea, which is that everyone can participate. We celebrate the dancer in every body and the dance in every movement,” said The Dance Foundation’s Executive Director, Diane Litsey. “From our beginning 50 years ago until today, we’ve danced with everyone, from people with different abilities to career pursuing dancers in our studio program. We’ve danced in underserved schools, our studio in Homewood, and all kinds of places in between. We dance with everyone because we believe dance is a wonderful experience that can help anyone gain skills, express themselves, and feel connected with the world around them.”
The Dance Foundation was founded in 1975 and moved to Homewood in 1988. More than 1,500 people visit the Homewood location weekly for classes, rehearsals, and events. In addition to the Dance Studio Classes Program for dancers of all ages, the Dance Partners Program takes dance into schools to help students engage and learn math and language arts concepts.
The Edge’s address is 817 Green Springs Highway Birmingham, AL 35209. ADA parking spots are available, and outdoor areas and restrooms are all ADA accessible. The rain date for this event is Aug. 23.
