Mountain Brook Dominates Shades Valley, 34-7
The Mountain Brook Spartans gained a key 6A Region 6 victory Friday night, defeating the Shades Valley Mounties 34-7. The win came as the regular season winds down and as the Spartans build momentum for postseason play.
From the opening kickoff, Mountain Brook asserted its will on both sides of the ball. The Spartans were physical in the trenches, opportunistic on defense, and efficient on offense.
Linebacker Miller Crumpton gave Mountain Brook an early spark, recovering a fumble and returning it 16 yards for a touchdown. Shades Valley managed one score late in the first half but never found a consistent rhythm against the Spartans’ disciplined defense.
Quarterback Cayden Hofbauer led the Spartans’ offense, completing 8 of 15 passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns while adding 50 rushing yards on eight carries.
Running back Stuart Andrews powered Mountain Brook’s rushing attack with 18 carries for 131 yards and a touchdown, while helping the Spartans control the tempo and the clock.
Receiver Sam Smith made the most of his touches, catching two passes for 27 yards, both for touchdowns. Defensive leaders include Crumpton with four tackles in addition to his fumble recovery score. Hayes Windle and Miller Lee each had eight tackles, followed by Boyd Cooper with seven tackles.
Mountain Brook finished with 261 yards of total offense, 181 rushing and 80 passing. The Spartans’ defense held the Shades Valley offense to fewer than 150 total yards in another strong defensive effort.
With the win, Mountain Brook ended the regular season with a 7-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in region play.
