The 3rd Annual Lettermen of the USA (LotUSA) Turkeys for Heroes is set for Friday, November 21st from 1-4pm. Volunteers and partners of LotUSA will cook and deliver 220 Thanksgiving turkey dinners to homeless and less fortunate veterans to ensure they enjoy a warm holiday meal.
This heartfelt effort is led by Darryl Fuhrman, President and Founder of Lettermen of the USA, and made possible through the generosity of dedicated volunteers and donors, including the Alabama Power Foundation ABC Trust, American Legion Post 255, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 688, Semper Fi Community Task Force of North Alabama, Veterans Outreach Center, and the Central Alabama Veterans Collaborative.
Thanksgiving meals will be prepared by David “Hoss” Johnson, former University of Alabama football player, who is generously volunteering to smoke 100 pounds of turkey breast for the occasion. The traditional sides — green bean casserole, cornbread dressing, gravy, and cranberry sauce — will be prepared by Workshops Empowerment, Inc. In addition, U.S. Veteran Chef Jason Mullenix, who has graciously volunteered his time for the past two years, will once again assist in the meal preparation.
Location for cooking and meal assembly: Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 668 1801 11th Avenue North Birmingham, AL 35202 At 1:00 p.m., volunteers will assemble plates and load vehicles to deliver the meals directly to veterans.
