The Junior League of Birmingham (JLB) Choral Group released its first downloadable album on Spotify and Apple Music on February 10, 2026.
Under the direction of Amy Murphy, JLB member and owner of The Amy Murphy Studio, the JLB Choral Group is comprised of approximately 70 women who are dedicated to bringing vocal performance to area schools, nursing homes, underprivileged schools and retirement centers.
“With this album, we can spread joy to our community as we focus on leadership, unity, and high-quality performance,” said Amy Murphy, JLB Choral Group Director. “We are the sum of sound, joining together in collective effort for the collective good. Through music, we hope to help others believe in themselves as music helps to develop the inner leader in all of us.”
Formed in 1961, the JLB Choral Group is the oldest Junior League choral group in the country, and they bring high-quality musical performances into the lives of those in need. Holiday and Spring performances are held throughout the Birmingham area. The new album titled “Be My Baby” will feature songs like “You’ve Got a Friend” and “Love Will Keep Us Together.”
Kathryn Harbert, JLB and Choral Group member for over 40 years, said, “Giving back to those in need through the gift of quality music feeds both the hearts of those we serve and the Choral Group members as well. In 2000, we performed patriotic songs from each branch of the military at St. Martin’s in the Pines, and a man who had not spoken a word in five years stood up and began singing the song of his branch. Seeing the joy that we bring young children who have never heard live music or the patients at the VA Hospital, we are constantly reminded that it is more blessed to give than to receive.”
The JLB Choral Group is one of the JLB’s 22 community projects, specifically representing its commitment to advancing education and culture in the Birmingham area.
