Maury Berthon’s fourth novel In Vulcan’s Shadow, is a murder mystery set in and around the Birmingham metro area as well as various U.S. and international locations.
For over 50 years a beautiful young coed has been missing from the normally quiet Samford University campus. This long “cold case” becomes very hot again when a human skeleton is found behind an old fraternity house being demolished. The twists and turns of the investigation keep the book moving fast.
Berthon is a Homewood native with twenty-five years of international experience as a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) special agent. A graduate of Shades Valley High School and Samford University, his local perspective helped him craft a narrative with references to real places locals will recognize. Today Berthon lives in the New Orleans area with his wife Beth. In addition to his FBI experience, he is a licensed attorney and a Marine veteran. Growing up, his family owned Berthon cleaners, a well-respected business for many years.
