On October 15 at City Hall Plaza and Rosewood Hall, community leaders, residents and businesses will celebrate 100 years of Homewood in turn-of-the-century glam at the Homewood Centennial Gala. A pre-party on the SoHo Plaza will feature a red-carpet welcome, DJ Chris Sarris and a celebrity guest will be emceeing, Homewood High School photography students will act as paparazzi, and the Homewood Pops will serenade guests into Rosewood Hall for a fun-filled soireé with dinner served by Real and Rosemary. The ballroom will be filled with Homewood memorabilia; a Live and Silent Auction will feature one-of-a-kind items featuring Homewood businesses, artists, restaurants, services and more. Guests can keep the party going at the SoHo Social afterparty.
Proceeds from this inaugural gala will help fund capital improvements to reimagine Miss Sims Garden Botanical Park as a “Demonstration Garden for Residential Landscape Design” and fully realize Miss Sims’ vision of a teaching garden. Miss Sims Garden Botanical Park was the bequest of Catherine Anville Sims, aka “The Plant Lady,” to the City of Homewood on her death at 91 in 2006. The garden encompasses five lots between 908 Highland Road and 913 Irving Road and features antique roses; hydrangeas; fig, blueberry, persimmon and apple trees and dedicated pollinator and ozone-monitoring areas.
“The Miss Sims Garden Foundation is honored to be named the beneficiary of this once-in-a-lifetime event,” says Executive Director Amy Weis. “We are committed to preserving the legacy of Catherine Sims, and the gala will help us meet our fundraising goals to achieve that mission.”
