The American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink will kick off Sept. 22 at Carrigan’s Public House. Participants in this year’s campaign will wear pink every day during the month of October and raise funds to support breast cancer awareness as well as research efforts.
This year’s participants in the campaign are: Bob Baker, Ryan Brown, Michael Choy, Andrew Collins, Richard Danner, Bezshan Dolatabadi, Jeff Dugas, Jim Dunaway, Lee Edwards, Art Franklin, Bernard Frei, Courtney French, Daryl Grant, Will Haver, Thomas Hoffman, Jason Jack, David Jackson, Chris Lane, Brent McCullogh, Evan Ray, AC Roper, Brad Spencer, Lance Taylor and Wayne Trucks.
Facts About Breast Cancer
• In 2016, an estimated 246,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, and an estimated 40,890 will die from the disease.
• Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women (excluding skin cancer) and second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death in women.
• Breast Cancer death rates have declined by 36 percent since 1989, contributing to 249,000 lives saved.
• The five-year relative survival rate for breast cancer that has not spread to the lymph nodes or other locations is 99 percent.
