Pelham Chapter 67 United Daughters of the Confederacy began the new season with a luncheon at Birmingham Country Club.
Gloria Griggs, award-winning historical researcher, gave the program, “The Great Train Race/Robbery.” She recounted an event during the War Between the States when a group of Southern railroad men thwarted an attempt by Northern raiders to steal a train, destroy the tracks and burn the bridges.
Membership certificates were presented to Dottie Drake and Julia Rowe.
Others at the luncheon included Judy Anderson, Eleanor Hassinger, Cookie Kidd, Ann King, Betty Kitchings, Jane Morris, Virginia Mylius, Dorothy Naughton, Murray Phillips, Joyce Ratliff, Marie Rich, Joy Schuffert, Betty Bostwick Stockham, Edie Vann, Cordette Wall, Bitsy Williams and Delores Wilkinson.
