CLASS 7A BOYS’ SEMIFINALS
Mountain Brook 59, Lee-Montgomery 48
Mountain Brook senior Alex Washington sank all five 3-point goals he attempted Thursday morning and finished with 19 points to lead Mountain Brook to a 59-48 win over Lee-Montgomery in the Class 7A semifinals of the AHSAA State Basketball Championships being held at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
He had three in a row for the Spartans (30-3) in the fourth quarter to five Coach Bucky McMillan’s defending state champs the final boost it needed. His trey at 5:05 of the final period gave Mountain Brook a 46-45 lead. His next two stretched that lead to 54-45 with 1:53 left to play. The Generals (29-4) never recovered.
CLASS 7A BOYS’ SEMIFINALS
Baker 59, Hoover 55
Baker High School sophomore Christian Bedgood nailed two clutch free throws with 49 seconds remaining to give the Hornets the lead 56-55 Thursday in the Class 7A boys’ semifinal game. Teammates Patrick Robinson and Jalen Lilly added three more free throws in the final 24 seconds as Baker downed Hoover 59-55 in the Class 7A boys semifinals of the AHSAA State Basketball Championships being held at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
Coach David Armstrong’s Hornets (21-13) captured a berth in the Class 7A state finals Saturday at 5:45 p.m. Baker will face two-time defending state champion Mountain Brook (30-3).
Pacing Hoover (24-9), coached by Charles Burkett, was Ahman Ellington. He had 25 points, five rebounds and three assists. He was 4-of-7 from the 3-point arc and 7-10 at the foul line. C.J. Melton added 12 points and nine rebounds and D.J. Fairley had eight points.

Hoover girls take on Hewitt-Trussville Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Class 7A Girls Final.
