More than half of the students competing in the Distinguished Young Women Program of Jefferson County next month attend Over the Mountain Schools.
Mountain Brook, Homewood, Hoover, Vestavia Hills and North Shelby schools are well-represented among the 30 high school seniors representing 14 high school from across Jefferson County who will compete for cash tuition and college-granted scholarships in what was formerly known as the Junior Miss program.
The Distinguished Young Women Program will be July 18 and 19 at the Wright Center Concert Hall on the campus of Samford University in Homewood.
Sarah Grace McDuff, the current Distinguished Young Woman of Jefferson County and a graduate of Homewood High School, will present special dance performances on each night of the competition.
The mistress of ceremonies will be Ashley Halfman, the 1993 Jefferson County Junior Miss winner.
With a theme of “A Winter Wonderland,” participants will compete on stage in the talent, fitness and self-expression categories.
On the final night of the competition, finalists will be selected along with overall category winners. The Distinguished Young Woman of Jefferson County 2015 will then be crowned, along with a first alternate winner and second alternate winner.
