Full Moon Makes Ebony Magazine List
The votes are in for Ebony Magazine’s top barbecue restaurants in the U.S., and Birmingham-based Full Moon BBQ won top honors as “The Ultimate Smokehouse.”
The magazine’s readers were polled on their favorite holy grails of hog around the country and selected Full Moon’s hickory-smoked ribs and crunchy chow-chow for the July barbecue feature.
“It is such an honor to be chosen by Ebony Magazine’s readers as ‘The Ultimate Smokehouse’ for their July issue,” said David Maluff, owner of Full Moon BBQ. “As the only barbecue restaurant in Alabama to receive the honor, we are proud to show off our ribs and chow-chow in the national spotlight.”
This isn’t the first national recognition for Full Moon.
In May 2014, Taste of the South featured the restaurant’s Half Moon Cookie as one of its five “Best Homemade Cookies Delivered to Your Door.”
Also earlier this year, Movoto.com included Full Moon’s Half Moon Cookies among its “30 things to know about Birmingham before moving there” and listed the restaurant’s key lime pie as one of Birmingham’s top 11 foods.
Last year, Huffington Post/ Gayot.com ranked Full Moon as one of its top 10 barbecue restaurants in the U.S.
As featured in Ebony Magazine, Full Moon’s ribs are slow-cooked over a hot hickory fire and basted with the restaurant’s Full Moon sauce. The chow-chow is a spicy, sweet relish that’s the restaurant’s take on the Southern staple. –Donna Cornelius
