The Guild of the Birmingham Music Club hosted a fun-filled cocktail-supper party Jan. 26 at Vestavia County Club.
Billed as “Rhythm & Muse–A Celebration of the Arts,” this year’s fundraiser featured hors d’oeuvre stations around the club’s ballroom instead of a formal, seated dinner.
Guests sampled the food and bid on auction items to benefit the guild’s music scholarship program as well as the Music Club’s concert series.
Nancy Morrow is guild president.
Playing songs for listening and dancing were jazz musicians Roger Philips, Bill Thomas and Michael Coogan. They were joined by BMC Executive Director Ron Bourdages for rock and roll sets.
Guests gathered at round tables for conversation after selecting their hors d’oeuvres. The tables were centered with antique silver-embellished vases holding pink roses, lilacs, kale, phlox and seeded eucalyptus.
Guild member Mary-Noel Sellers was the floral designer, assisted by Marsha Drennen, Judy Anderson and Sandra Holley. Calligrapher Martha Ann Doyal addressed the elegant party invitations.
In the middle of the ballroom, a towering glass vase holding quince branches and acuba centered a round table where containers collected chances for gift certificates and other items offered in the prize drawing at the event’s finale.
Lochrane Coleman Smith presided over the drawing, which was coordinated by Elizabeth Ezell. Nancy Canada displayed treasures on the silent auction tables in sections defined by various musical instruments–strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion–to carry out the “Rhythm & Muse” theme.
Sandra Holley and Anne Lamkin made party arrangements with VCC.
Kay Clark, party chairman and immediate past president, welcomed guests, who included past presidents Carolyn Long, Elouise Williams, Linda Askins, Anne Lamkin, Judy Daniel, Lochrane Coleman Smith, Jeanne Bradford, Elaine Clark and Mary-Noel Sellers.
