Gwin Elementary students planted a tree in memory of second grade teacher Bob Thomas, who died Nov. 7, 2010, and third grader Stardust Mullins, who lost her battle with cancer Dec. 31, 2010.
The school’s annual tree-planting ceremony was held Feb. 14.
The Hoover Beautification Board presented the school with a redbud tree for planting. Principal Linda Joseph read the poem “Don’t Forget the Tree,” and students read quotes and information about trees and performed a rap song.
Stardust’s classmates hung handmade stars on the tree in her memory, and Mr. Thomas’ students hung handmade leaves.
