The Homewood High School band left for New York City today, ahead of their ninth Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade performance.
Members of the band will spend the next two days touring the city, watching the School of Rock on Broadway and seeing the Radio City Rockettes. Three drum majors weigh in on their excitement.
“I’ve always loved watching the Macy’s parade with my family on TV, and I’m so honored and excited to be a part of it this year,” Hannah Hensarling said. “The Thanksgiving season always reminds us to appreciate our many blessings, and I’m so thankful to represent such a wonderful program, school system, and city in New York. After we march, we will be able to share a dinner together, and celebrate Thanksgiving with our friends and families, which will make this Thanksgiving so memorable.”
At 412 members, the band has become like a family, said Meg Robinson.
“These people have created my high school experience and are such a major part of what makes Homewood home to me,” Robinson said. “The privilege we have to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade makes this time of our lives even more special, and I know this will be a Thanksgiving I will never forget.”
Anna Prchal said she remembers eating Thanksgiving dinner with the Homewood High School Band in a previous trip to Philadelphia. She said they huddled on a roof-deck couch with a view of the skyline.
“I can’t wait to relive this wonderful moment again, this time in an even more magnificent city,” Prchal said. “Band really is like one big, extended family. Spending Thanksgiving with them will be an experience of a lifetime.”
The band’s performance window will be between 11:10 and 11:45 a.m. CST on Thursday.
This Friday, the Homewood football team will play Pinson Valley at Waldrop Stadium in Homewood In round three of the state football playoffs. This is the first time for Homewood to make it to round three in 13 years.
