Homewood wrapped up the 2025 regular season at home with a 31-14 win over 6A Region 5 rival Minor on Friday night. The victory kept the Patriots perfect in region play and kept their momentum heading into the playoffs.
Both teams struggled early, with neither offense finding a consistent rhythm. Homewood struck first just past the mid-second quarter when quarterback Kaleb Carson found receiver Tomon Felton on a slant that turned into an 81-yard touchdown, giving the Patriots a 7-0 lead.
Kicker Judson Eanes added a 29-yard field goal with 28 seconds left in the first half to extend the advantage to 10-0. Homewood’s defense held Minor in check through the opening two quarters, keeping the Tigers from gaining much traction.
The Patriots came out of halftime firing on all cylinders. Carson connected with Chappy Chapleau on a 20-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to push the lead to 17-0. Running back Davis Griffin followed with a rushing touchdown. Early in the fourth quarter, Carson found Griffin again for another score, putting Homewood firmly in control at 31-0.
Minor finally got on the board late, with a 1-yard run by junior quarterback Tommie Burts, followed by a touchdown pass from Burts to Logan Johnson with about 2:30 remaining. The final score was Homewood 31, Minor 14.
Carson finished the night completing 19 of 30 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns, adding 56 rushing yards. Griffin carried 18 times for 121 yards and a touchdown, helping the Patriots sustain drives and control the clock. Homewood’s ground game totaled 121 yards, with only 20 in the first half, while the passing attack accounted for the rest.
Homewood’s defense delivered key stops throughout the night, limiting Minor to 14 points and preventing any sustained offensive momentum. The Patriots improved to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in region play, keeping them atop the Region 5 standings.
Homewood will close out the regular season on the road with an out-of-region matchup against James Clemens Friday, October 31.
