Hoover’s season-opening game Friday against Dothan at the Hoover Met has been canceled because Dothan’s football team is being quarantined because of COVID-19.
The Bucs are searching for another opponent to play. If they are unable to schedule a game this week, they will open the season next week at home against Bessemer City.
Hoover had scheduled Dothan last month because the Bucs’ previously scheduled opener against Lowndes County (Ga.) was canceled when Georgia pushed its high school season back two weeks because of COVID-19 and because of Alabama’s decision to start its season as scheduled this week.
In a release Monday, Dothan City Schools said it was notified of a positive COVID-19 case on Dothan’s football team on Monday.
“After conferring with the Alabama Department of Public Health, it is recommended that the entire football team quarantines due to APDH’s COVID-19 guidelines,” the release stated. “As a result, Dothan High will not travel to compete against Hoover on Aug. 21 and will not host Park Crossing on Aug. 28. The DHS Football Program is scheduled to resume its program and games by Sept. 4 against Enterprise High School.”
