It’s the Season to get healthy, and I’d like to share some life changing tips for your oral health.
Did you know? That it isn’t just sugar that causes cavities. Sugary drinks and sugary foods leave sugar on your teeth. Bacteria stick to the sugar, and in the process of eating the sugar, the bacteria create acid. This acid slowly DISSOLVES your teeth, wild!
With this concept in mind, here are some easy things you can do to avoid cavities.
• Drink water -(ideally fluoridated) immediately after eating or drinking anything sugary or acidic, this will wash the bad stuff away.
• Brush and Floss twice a day! – think about it, if you leave food on the table for a few days, it gets gross fast… on a small scale, unknowing to most, this is exactly what happens in your mouth if you don’t brush and floss!
• Fluoridated water and topical varnish at hygiene appointments – fluoride is like medicine for your teeth. It has antibacterial properties, fortifies enamel, and reduces sensitivity.
• Professional Cleaning 2 times a year – everyone misses a day, but if you miss too many plaque will harden like a rock. When this happens, it cannot be brushed or flossed. It needs to be professionally removed.
• Xylitol – naturally occurring sugar that bacteria can’t eat! This promotes saliva and starves the bad bacteria. It is nutritive for people, so don’t eat too much.
• MI-paste – this is a great product for some extra re-mineralization to recover from early stage lesions.
