After a one year hiatus, the eighth annual Taste of Fourth Avenue Jazz Festival will return Sept. 24 to the Historic Fourth Avenue Business District on Fourth Ave. N. and 18th St.
Several area jazz groups will perform, with saxophonist Paul Taylor as the headliner. The 2011 festival will kick off at 2 p.m. and end at 10 p.m.
The festival was founded by Urban Impact, which helps promote downtown Birmingham’s Historic Fourth Avenue Business District. The city of Birmingham is one of the festival’s primary sponsors.
This year’s festival is managed by Magic City Smooth Jazz, a Birmingham nonprofit organization. The event’s goals are to educate and expose Birmingham area residents to the rich culture of the Fourth Avenue Business District, a historic place for black businesses, music and professional services.
Besides musical entertainment, the festival will feature an art village where artists can showcase their work. Vendors include businesses in the Fourth Avenue Business District as well as Jones Valley Urban Farm and West End Community Gardens.
