Former “American Idol” runner-up and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) advocate, Crystal Bowersox will be the celebrity guest performer at the Alabama Chapter’s 10th annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Night of Hope Gala April 16 beginning at 6 p.m. at The Club in Birmingham.
Cocktails and a silent auction begin at 6 p.m., and then dinner, entertainment and a live auction will begin at 7:30 p.m.
This year’s gala co-chairs are Bernice Barstein and Harriet Despinakis Reis, and the Living and Giving honoree is Jeff Stone.
Over the last nine years, this significant event has raised more than $5 million for diabetes research.
Bowersox, 25, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 6 years old. Her family often participated in the local Walk to Cure Diabetes events in her native state of Ohio. Most recently, Bowersox visited Washington, D.C. in 2010, to ask the administration to renew the Special Diabetes Program. In December of 2010, the administration approved the renewal the SDP which would not only increase federal funding for diabetes research but allow current critical research to continue.
