Organizers of the I’m With Mike Virtual 5K race set a goal of 500 participants representing all 50 states for the online event taking place June 19-21.
It was announced yesterday that the organization has surpassed its goal and is not looking to top 600 participants. The goal of the event is to raise awareness of prostate cancer over Father’s Day weekend, with participants running, walking or cycling a 5K.
“It is incredible to see how people have come together from all over the country to support our efforts to raise awareness of prostate cancer over Father’s Day weekend with our first ever virtual event. We even have teams from the ACC, Big Ten, CFP, and SEC showing support,” said Anna Slive Harwood, executive director of the Mike Slive Foundation. “Adapting to changing situations was something my father did beautifully well. He was a tremendous leader, especially during challenging times. I know he would be proud that we have found a way to still come together as a community to support prostate cancer survivors and bring awareness to a cancer that affects one in nine men.”
The Foundation is asking that during the walk, run or ride participants photograph themselves and tag the Foundation (@MikeSliveFdn) on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, also using the #ImWithMike to show support.
Registration is available at ImWithMike5K.com. Registration is $30, or $25 for prostate cancer survivors.
Shirts will be shipped after the race for those who register between now and Sunday. The support goes towards the Mike Slive Foundation’s mission of savings lives by funding cutting-edge research and raising awareness of prostate cancer.
