The city of Mountain Brook will serve as the host for the 9/11 Remembrance and Patriot’s Day Ceremony this Sunday. The annual event is held in conjunction with the city of Vestavia Hills and last year’s host, Homewood.
Rear Adm. John Natter of Hoover will serve as the keynote speaker for the ceremony. Natter served the U.S. Navy for 36 years before retiring and is currently an attorney as well as a member of the Hoover City Council.
Also participating in the program will be Homewood Mayor Scott McBrayer and Vestavia Hills Mayor Butch Zaragoza. Outgoing Mountain Brook Mayor Terry Oden, who will be recognized for his 24 years of service to the city, will be opening the ceremony.
Aiding in the presentation will be Mountain Brook Fire Chief Chris Mullins and Police chief Ted Cook, along with representatives of the Homewood Honor Guard. Patriotic musical performances will feature country singer Bailey Ingle, of Hoover, and MBFD’s Brian Bowman on the bagpipes.
The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Crestline Village between Emmet O’Neal Library and Fire Station One. According to MBFD Deputy Chief Stacey Cole, early birds can take advantage of refreshments in the library’s community room beginning at 7:30 a.m.
