Vestavia Hills ran into a brick wall Friday night, losing to Thompson in 7A Region 3 action, 35-3.
With regular starting quarterback Charlie Taaffe not playing due to unspecified reasons, the Rebels’ offense never found its footing against the defending state champions in Alabaster.
The game was shaping up as a defensive classic with Vestavia Hills up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter on a 19-yard field goal by Sloan Morgan. Thompson grabbed the lead early in the second quarter as the Warriors’ all-everything quarterback, Trent Seaborn, connected with Darion Moseley on a quick strike that turned into a 70-yard touchdown.
For the remainder of the first half, each team’s defense took over. Vestavia Hills quarterback Price LeMaster was intercepted once and lost a fumble, ending promising second-quarter drives. The Rebels’ defense also stepped up in the first half, picking off one Seaborn pass and sacking him twice.
Thompson held a slim 7-3 lead going into the locker room.
The Warriors’ offense broke the game wide open in the third quarter, scoring three unanswered touchdowns. Running back Kamorri Jackson punched in a one-yard touchdown run to extend the lead, 14-3, followed by a pair of touchdown passes by Seaborn – a 16-yard strike to Trey Knight and a 38-yard bomb to Dedrick Kimbrough – pushing the margin to 28-3.
In the fourth quarter, Seaborn added his fourth touchdown of the evening, connecting with Knight from six yards out. Final score, Thompson 35, Vestavia Hills 3.
Vestavia Hills amassed 149 total yards, 69 yards passing, and 80 yards rushing. Comparatively, Thompson had 410 yards, 292 passing yards, and 118 yards on the ground.
In his first start of 2025, Lemaster completed 12 of 26 passing attempts for 69 yards and had 7 carries for 20 yards rushing. Noah Boylan had 9 carries for 36 yards, and Major Weaver had 20 yards on 9 rushing attempts.
Luke Stubbs led the Rebels in receiving with 5 catches for 40 yards, followed by Carson Purdy with 2 receptions for 14 yards.
With the loss, Vestavia Hills drops to 3-2 overall, 1-2 in region play. The Rebels have a bye week and will host Prattville in an important region game on Friday, October 3.
