Highlands School second graders recently completed a social studies unit on Native American history and saw history come alive with a visit from Cherokee tribe member Charlene Tuckaleechee Story. Wearing a traditional dress of deer skin, moccasins with bells, jewelry and a feathered hair ornament, Ms. Story talked about daily lives of her people, both past and present.
Students saw tribal culture items, such as clothing worn at pow-wows and festivals and shared stories of their own Native American heritage.
