Thompson Rolls Past Vestavia Hills, 49-0
ALABASTER—Vestavia Hills had no answer for a high-flying Thompson Warriors squad, falling in a lopsided road loss, 49-0, Friday night in Alabaster.
Thompson scored on its first possession and never let up, building a 28-0 halftime lead before adding touchdowns in each of the final two quarters. The Warriors piled up 448 yards of total offense compared to just 122 for Vestavia, and quarterback Trent Seaborn was nearly perfect through the air, completing 19 of 22 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns.
Vestavia’s defense had no answer for Thompson’s balance. Seaborn connected with Darion Moseley for a 73-yard touchdown in the second quarter, part of a stretch in which the Warriors scored three touchdowns in a span of less than five minutes, blowing the game open. Thompson also racked up 106 rushing yards, with C.J. Cowley leading the way with 56 yards and a touchdown on 10 attempts, while adding a receiving score as well.
Offensively, the Rebels struggled to sustain drives all night with starting quarterback Charlie Taaffe out after sustaining an injury last week at Benjamin Russell. Vestavia converted just six of 16 third-down attempts and managed only 2.4 yards per play.
Noland Williamson and Hudson Mote split time at quarterback, combining to go six for 14 for 80 yards with an interception. Mote led the team in passing with 52 yards on three-of-seven passing, while Williamson threw the game’s lone interception.
Vestavia’s running game struggled as well, earning just 42 yards, with freshman Foxx Neely leading the way with 37 yards on nine carries. Powell Curry was the leading receiver for the Rebels, gaining 45 yards on one reception.
Vestavia Hills drops to 2-1 on the season, 0-1 in 6A, Region 3 play. The Rebels will host region foe Oak Mountain on Friday, September 11.
John Carroll 7, American Christian Academy 51
John Carroll was dominated by American Christian Academy in their initial AA Region 2 action in Tuscaloosa, 51-7. With the loss, the Cavaliers fell to 1-2 on the season but will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Huntsville to take on winless St. John Paul II on Friday, September 11.
